Hepatic lipidosis is the most common metabolic liver disease that causes death in cats. The disease has two forms: primary idiopathic or secondary. Hepatic lipidosis usually occurs in obese cats following anorexia due to any reason. Although liver biopsies must be evaluated histologically in the definitive diagnosis of the disease, there are typical clinicopathological findings indicating the disease. The basis of treatment for hepatic lipidosis in cats is to eliminate fluid, electrolyte and metabolic deficiencies and initiate food intake.
